I'm a molecular ecologist who aims to understand how genetic diversity is distributed across space and time in aquatic populations of conservation or management concern. I do this using a combination of field work and cutting-edge genomic and bioinformatic methods. I also often integrate genomic datasets with other ecological and environmental datasets to explore questions from a wholistic perspective. I usually study fishes from systems that range from freshwater to marine, native to invasive, and data rich to data poor. The primary goal of my research is to meet the information needs of fisheries managers while addressing broader questions central to biodiversity conservation.
I completed my PhD at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science in 2018 and am currently a staff scientist in the Department of Integrative Biology at Michigan State University. I love discussing new ideas and collaborations! Feel free to reach out at mamooz (at) msu (dot) edu. |
